If you like 50's Rock'n'Roll music, like me, you may find it VERY frustrating when trying to find these old classics on high quality releases.
A lot of CDs like this are made in countries with no quality control and are mastered from poor quality vinyl, played on a turntable with a worn needle, and on top of that mastered at a volume level so high that it permanently distorts the sound of the songs. All CD releases should be mastered using master tapes. Master tapes don't have surface noise, pops, and clicks.
HOWEVER, this is one of the exceptions. The quality is here. Each song sounds as it should. It's an actual CD with CD quality versions of classic 50's rock'n'roll songs. This CD is top-notch all the way. As every CD should be, but sadly isn't these days.
To me, the highlights include "At The Hop" by Danny And The Juniors, "Party Doll" by Buddy Knox, "Ain't That A Shame" by Fats Domino. I love the Elvis stuff as well, but have all of that many times over on good Elvis RCA releases. Carl Perkins "Blue Suede Shoes" is on here in CD quality. Avoid those cheapo crap made in E.U. 100 rockabilly classic releases - same songs on there are horrible sounding and a complete waste of money. Pay a good price only for a good product like this one.
You are not getting value for money at any price for 100 classics if the sound is horrific and unlistenable. So seek out releases like this one and on labels like this one which stand for quality sound.
In addition you also have great tracks like "When" by The Kalin Twins, the original Bobby Day version of "Rockin' Robin" (later covered by The Jackson Five), 2 great Chordettes songs, "Tammy" by Debbie Reynolds (a personal fave), 2 great Connie Francis songs, The Cascades "Rhythm Of The Rain", a version of the Del Shannon song "Handy Man" done by Jimmy Jones. I'm not 100 percent certain that the song is a Del Shannon original, only that his version is the one best known to me. Both versions are excellent.
2 great Ricky Nelson classics, The Crystals "He's A Rebel". This one is worth the price of the CD alone, as it's in stereo. Phil Spector was big on mono and most of his music is released in mono but every song on this CD is a stereo version. You've got "Dream Lover" by Bobby Darin. A song done many times by many artists and all have done great versions of it. Plus you've got Chuck Berry, Johnny Ace and more....
A great deal, and most importantly, the quality is as great as the music. AGAIN, as all CD releases SHOULD be.
